(1) Given that ME and ATC are two of the three most listened-to radio shows in the US, and given how tech-savvy many NPR listeners presumably are (thanks to the digital divide), it’s surprises me that there isn’t a blog by NPR listeners dedicated to commentary on NPR. There are fan-blogs on nearly every cultural commodity out there, from sports teams to non-winners on American Idol. Wouldn’t it be neat to see a blog by fans and for fans, which could have two purposes – a space to comment on stories heard, but also to provide critique and counter-argument. And given the huge base of NPR fans, it’s hard not to see this blog become quite popular. I’d be interested in working with others out there on such a blog project; are you?
(2) Wouldn’t an NPR social-networking site be interesting? Or if the NPR site itself had a social-networking community aspect to it, like MyNPR or something, where listeners would have profiles and could post comments, invite NPRfriends, etc.? I find this especially intriguing because it’s hard to get a feel for what the national “NPR community” looks like. I know there are lots of liberal/progressive folks, but anecdotally I also know we are quite diverse in occupation, geography, and (to a lesser extent) age. OTOH, I know there are not a few centrist (even conservative) NPR listeners, too. And, let’s be honest, if one were looking for someone to be “it’s complicated” with, an NPR soc-net site would be as trustworthy place as any to start.
